Chinese Medicine Hospital Visits

Practical preparation for a consultation at a Chinese medicine department.

01

Confirm the institution and department

Use the hospital official registration channel to check the department, practitioner and campus. Ask whether your intended consultation is available to international patients and which language arrangements are possible.

02

Bring a clear medicines list

Prepare the names, doses and schedule of prescribed medicines, non-prescription products and supplements, together with allergies and relevant existing reports. Share these with the treating clinician when they request them.

03

Ask what the proposed visit includes

Before agreeing to services, ask the clinician to explain the proposed consultation or procedure, expected course, relevant risks and alternatives. Request a separate explanation of charges, follow-up arrangements and any items taken home.

04

Plan for communication and follow-up

Arrange an interpreter if needed. Ask for written instructions you can understand and how to contact the department after leaving China. Do not change an existing treatment plan based on a travel guide; discuss decisions with your treating clinician.
